Annual Teaching Standards Assessment – ECE Professional Growth Cycle

This practical Annual Teaching Standards Assessment Template has been developed for ECE services to support the annual assessment of kaiako as part of the Professional Growth Cycle (PGC). It specifically supports Element E of the PGC – the annual confirmation that the teacher meets the Teaching Standards.

Updated to reflect the new Teaching Standards, the template includes all eight Teaching Standards and their focus areas, with space for kaiako to record relevant evidence and mentors to add comments and indicate whether each Standard has been Met (MET) or Not Yet Met (NYM).

Throughout the year, evidence can be gathered naturally through the PGC and everyday teaching practice, including reflections, observations, professional learning, planning and assessment documentation, examples of teaching practice and professional discussions.

The template supports mentors and kaiako to:

• review evidence across all eight Teaching Standards
• record evidence gathered through the PGC and everyday teaching practice
• use the focus areas to help identify relevant aspects of practice
• identify any gaps in evidence before the end-of-year assessment
• record mentor comments for each Standard
• indicate whether each Teaching Standard has been Met or Not Yet Met
• complete the annual PGC review and confirmation process

Importantly, kaiako are not required to provide separate evidence against every individual focus area. Evidence may demonstrate several focus areas or Teaching Standards at the same time.
